Nokia N82 Review
Although the Nokia N95 and N82 may differ starkly in terms of appearances, there are really pretty closely modeled after each other, under the hood, that is. Most suppliers seem to agree that the N82 is a follow-up based on the N95’s resounding success, and as such, it would seem as if Nokia essentially ‘repackaged’ their N95 into a different, and possibly more appealing, model.
Features of the Nokia N82
Packaging plays a great deal of importance in mobile phones. For one, there are the eternal preferences of either a slidephone, flip-phone, or candy-bar model. Everyone seems to prefer one or the other, and as such it can be pretty tough on mobile phone manufacturers to decide which way to go. In the case of the N82, it is a distinctive candy-bar phone which, alone, sets it apart from the N95 that was a slidephone.
Not only is the base model of the N82 different, but it also is both narrower and slimmer, with a smaller screen, as should be expected. Slidephones constantly seem to have the edge as far as screens are concerned, however candy-bar phones seem to make up for it due to the fact that the sliders on slidephones can regularly malfunction or break.
Beneath the exterior, the N82 comes with most of the N95’s prominent feature including the 5 megapixel camera, complete with the Carl-Zeiss optics, Tessar lens and xenon flash, that provides for stunning quality photographs. Also, there is the much vaunted GPS system, the HSDPA capabilities, the microSD extra storage support, all of which is based around the Symbian S60 operating system.
Essentially, the Nokia N82 offers the complete smartphone capabilities that the N95 did, and does so in a remarkable way. Not only are all the features provided for, but they fit in well with the new exterior, and, to be completely honest, cost quite a bit less too.
Same Phone, Hot New Look
Appearances can be deceiving, but sometimes, they can be everything. By releasing the N82, Nokia offers those who prefer candy-bar style mobile phones the option of obtaining N95 type quality in a package more suited to their preferences. Truly it is a mobile phone deal among mobile phone deals.
Not only does the candy-bar style appeal, but also the slimmer feel and slightly lesser weight goes a long way toward selling to the fence-sitters. Criticism is still abundant for the entire N-series, however despite all the naysayers, the N95 was a resounding success, and the N82 looks to be following closely in its footsteps.
From one phone that gave a look into the future of mobile phones, now there are two that do essentially the same. Imperfect features can be annoying, however there are various ways to cope, and sometimes even fix them. For all those that absolutely adored the functionality and features that were packed into the N95, but did not go for it purely due to the design, well, the N82 should allay all misgivings in that regard.
